Gibson, EmilyEmily Gibson, associate professor of bioengineering, received a POC Grant ($150k) from Colorado Office of Economic Development and International Trade (OEDIT)’s Advanced Industries Accelerator Grant Program. Along with help from PhD student Tarah Welton, Gibson has received the funding for the development of a miniature multiphoton fiber-coupled microscope for non-invasive neuronavigation in deep brain surgeries.

The Gibson Biophotonics Laboratory specializes in optical engineering and microscopy for neuroscience research, guided neurosurgery, and clinical diagnostics. The development of this miniature, light-weight multiphoton fiber-coupled microscope has already enabled imaging and stimulation of free-moving mice for research. This additional funding will enable Gibson to explore the potential of this technology to be used for non-invasive navigation and visualization of neurosurgery procedures.
